I enjoy a whole range of things. If the weather is great like it has this weekend then I love to get outside. If I can I head to the water where I will either do some sailing or kayaking with my friends. If there is no water then I hike round the countryside is great for cleaning up the city lungs and my mind at the same time.
If the weather is rubbish then I’ll get onto the computer or console and put in some serious playing time.
I was a competitive synchronised swimmer for 13 years, so I’d say that as my favourite hobby. When I moved to Oxford (and later Cambridge), there wasn’t a local team for me to swim with, so I played water polo for the university instead. Now I’ll swim just for fun, and will more regularly be found out running or cycling as a way of keeping fit. I also enjoy reading – I’m a huge Harry Potter, Garth Nix and Trudi Canavan fan, and of a weekend will often be found pottering around in my garden, making jewellery, crocheting and baking.
I like getting into the countryside and walking. I’m learning how to garden by identifying one plant at a time in the garden of my new house and avidly watching gardener’s world. I also enjoy getting my sewing machine out and making things like bags and quilts.
I took up surfing a few years ago and loved it! Since coming to the UK I haven’t had much chance to get back in the water but hoping to take a few weekends over the summer. After that I love climbing both rocks and mountains. So far the highest I’ve gone is up Kilimanjaro in Africa and that was one of the best experiences of my life….despite the altitude sickness 😉
I also enjoy running, though for the last few weeks I’ve been a bit lazy about my runs (getting shorter and shorter).
Apart from that I love reading and read pretty much anything, my favorite authors are probably JK Rowling, Adrian Tchaikovsky and Terry Pratchett but will literally read anything.
