      Scientists believe that the ancestors to the modern day bacteria were on our planet around 4 billion years ago (we as homo sapiens have been around for the last 200,000 years) and were some of the first lifeforms on earth along with cells called Archea. It has been suggested that these two cell types merged to create eukaryotes which eventually evolved to make us.
