This is easy for me…I went to school in Ireland so we don’t have A-levels 🙂
Instead a place in Irish university is dependent on the results of our state exams called the Leaving Certificate. I took Math, Biology, Chemistry, English, German, Business and Irish (the language).
You are assigned points based on the grade you get so for an A in higher level subject you get 100 points for a B you get 80. Each University course is a certain number of points and if when you add your points up you have enough then you can get into a course.
I think in the UK while you take fewer subjects you also go into these subjects in greater detail.

For comparison purposes…I did take A levels: Maths, Biology, PE and General Studies. I also took an AS in Further Maths and French.
