So my best subjects were biology and chemistry but I was also very good at maths and because I enjoyed it so much geography.

Languages were always my weakness. Interestingly the way your brain behaves can dictate whether you are a more creative or scientific person. No prizes for guessing which way mine leans.

My favourite and best subject was maths – and that’s what I went on to do at university, before discovering I could combine it with genetics and infectious disease. I was also good at art – if you look at the picture of my desk on my profile page (read more under My Typical Day), then you’ll see a picture of two teddies on the notice board behind. That’s a copy of one of my favourite pictures I painted at school in year 8!
