• Question: If you were not a scientist, why would you join the RAF? I am currently in the cadets and certainly want to become a pilot.

My dad was in the RAF for over 40 years and I considered carry on after him. The travel, wide range of experiences and abilities to learn new skills appealed to me the most. Watching him fly helicopters over the house and going to air shows got me really interested in the RAF too. I also have a good head for heights which I needed when I went skydiving in South Africa this year.

However I think I made the right choice as I do not respond to orders very well and like to form my own opinions, two things which I don’t think work well in the armed forces. But good luck to you. I think joining in with the cadets will give you a good insight into what the forces could offer you.
