As Hannah points out after your body ceases to keep itself alive other organisms will start to decompose your body. The big question is whether there is any sort of afterlife. Personally I think the idea of life after death is born out of our fear of mortality and a self declared importance we have made for ourselves. Do trees have a soul and an afterlife? Chances are not so why do we think we should get one? Guess in several years I’ll find out but in either case I won’t be vale to tell anyone!
Death is the last part of our life, and there’s definitely a sense of mystery about it. I don’t think I believe in an afterlife, but I do like this quote by Albus Dumbledore from the Harry Potter books: ‘to the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure’.
I have to agree with the others…and Dumbledore 🙂
I don’t have a belief in an afterlife but i do like to think about the fact that all the atoms that make us up go on to be part of others things. I love the idea that someday the atoms that make up my finger nails might end up being part of a star 😛
(of course one they are part of the star they would get blasted into new atoms of different elements but I still think of them as mine 🙂 )
One of my fave scientists is a guy called Carl Sagan and he said
“We are the way the universe knows itself”
I like that quote and I always think its best to focus on the fact that right now the universe has arranged for us all to be here asking cool questions and in my case watching the football 🙂
I agree with everyone here! I dont believe in an afterlife… The human body is such a complicated machine and we die when one of the parts fail and the body then disintegrates into the basic elements that we are made of.
