Question: HOW MANY PEOPLE DIE FROM THE COMMON COLD EVERY YEAR?
death, microbe, society, virus
Asked by arthurb to Bethany, Hannah, Keith, Peter on 25 Jun 2014. This question was also asked by kungfusufire10.
answered on 25 Jun 2014:
It is hard to say how many people die from the common cold as some deaths will go unreported I have found a few figures though to show how deadly the common cold can be.
Seasonal Influenza kills an estimated 500 000 people annually.
Rhinovirus kills an estimated 4 500 deaths in the US.
A lot of these deaths probably occur in either older people or those who suffer other medical conditions which mean they cannot cope with the virus as well.
